Many of you have asked me what the Silverflame is exactly. That is a very good question and the answer would fill volumes, in fact it has at other times and in other places, but i will do my best to make it a simple and concise answer. First I will give a little history as to where it came from.

    The Silverflame first began when i was about 10,000 years old. At the time I was your basic old wizard. I was going by the name Telorvik Celibosh and i was experimenting with souls. I was not exactly the nicest person at that point as i did not always ask all of my victims... um i mean test subjects if they wanted to participate in my experiments. It was while i was thus engaged with my experiments that i first ran across the Silverflame effect, in a very primitive form of course. I had noticed a peculiar reaction in one of my test subjects, an elf who was insane, to some of the magical forces to which i was submitting him. On further study I was able to isolate the effect and reproduce it in several others, including a dwarf, who are usually resistant to such tampering. I called it the Soul Resonance and Ditsitreation effect (yes i know how pompous that sounds, but at the time i was really impressed with such things), noted it down in my logs, and moved on with my studies not having any idea how much of an impact it would have on my future life. About a thousand years later i was working on another project involving souls, this time my own. I had reached a point where i was making no further progress and was about ready to give up when i stumbled on my notes regarding the elf and the strange effect. In a fit of desperation to make progress i tried it out on myself. To say i was unprepared for the reaction to my system is a drastic understatement. I did not move for days as the effect swept through my already strange system. It altered my soul yes, but it also altered my body and something deeper then my soul which for this essay i can only refer to as the deepest essence of my being. When i had recovered enough, i managed to crawled into bed to rest. When i woke up some time later I felt strangely energetic, but that seemed to be the extent of it that i could tell. After a while i noticed that certain of my spells where greatly enhanced, mostly those involved with summoning and raw energies. Well to try and make an extremely long story a bit shorter i spent a very long time experimenting with my new soul and abilities refining them and altering them until they reached the state they are at currently, which is always open to change should the need arise and opportunity present itself.

    So, now i have explained a bit of the history of where it came from. Let's discuss what is is now. First i will describe a few things it is not, so that we can clear those misconceptions up right away. It is not a spell. It is not any of the standard forms of energy, magical or otherwise, although it does encompass them. It is not "will power". And perhaps most important, the Silverflame is not a single thing. Many things fall under the generic term "Silverflame" below is a breakdown of the most common forms and their relation to each other.

7. The links that all members of the House share to Mystra
8. The raw visible energy that Teloric and those of the proper
        level of initiation within his House can manifest.
 

1. Teloric's Soul - this is the founding keystone to the whole structure of the Silverflame. It is from this that all aspects of the Silverflame spring and draw their power. Should by some incalculable tragedy Teloric's Soul be extinguished all other forms and aspects of the Silverflame would cease to exist with exceptions as noted. However this is extraordinarily unlikely because of the manner in which Teloric's Soul is in existence up an down many timelines and in many universes.

2. The Pool is a general term for all the the abilities, powers, memories, information, etc. that Mystra can access through Teloric's Soul.

3. The Oversoul also known as Mystra. please refer to the essay on Mystra for more info regarding this entity.

4. Mystra co-ordinates the access of powers made possible by the Silverflame through an extraordinarily complex system which keeps all users of the Silverflame ready to access their powers at any moment. From time to time Mystra herself will take a direct role in things, the effects of this sort generally tend to be tinted a blue hue. However the power is still that of the Silverflame.

5. The genetic makeup of the Teloric and the House members - this warrants an essay all of it's own. For the moment it is enough to say that the genetics in and of themselves grant certain effects and abilities above and beside the other aspects and the genetics themselves would continue even if Teloric's Soul ceased to exist.

6. This is a complicated issue that really does not need much detail in this essay. Some of this is covered in the essay on Mystra and the rest will be covered in further essays.

7. Same as 6.

8. This is the most visible form of the Silverflame and the most commonly associate with the term. This is where it all comes together. When a member of the House with access to the raw Silverflame calls on it to do something the genetics of the House member open a link to Mystra, who then access the power from the Pool and returns it to the requesting member. This is normally accompanied by a visible silvery energy. Which is where the Silverflame gets its name.
